FREE PLANNING TOOL
Make a ‘what will happen’ story for a park day
A short story of the day, in plain words, to read together before you go.
Not knowing what will happen can make a day out harder. This tool turns a park’s access arrangement into a short story in the first person, with one or two sentences on each page, that you can read together beforehand. It is a planning aid, not medical advice.
Please edit the words so they fit your family. Change “we” to a name, take out what does not apply, add what helps. The story says what may happen. The park decides on the day, so it never promises anything.
Your story
Choose a park. Then change the words so they fit your family. Nothing you type is sent or saved by this site, and it is gone when you leave the page.
Edit mode is on. Select any page and type to change its words. Changing the park starts the story again.
How it works
- Choose a park. Our guide to that park gives its access arrangement one of four types: a time to come back, a shorter wait, an alternative entrance, or no published queue arrangement.
- The story uses a short, general version of that type, in words such as “we may”. Pages about a break, food, the toilet and going home are true at every park.
- One page, headed “What the park says”, quotes the park’s own arrangement from our guide, with a link to our profile, the official source and the date we last checked.
- Read it one page at a time or all at once, make the text bigger, edit the words and print it as a booklet.
- If the park has published its own visual story and our guide links it, we link it too. Not every park has one, and we do not link any that we have not seen.
Without JavaScript the tool above does not appear. The same four types are explained in which access scheme suits you, and every park has its own guide.
