THE PARK ACCESS FIELD GUIDE
What to arrange and when: lead times for theme park access
The lead times our park profiles quote, grouped by how early, with sources and the places where parks disagree. Official pages re-opened on 3 October 2026.
Some access schemes need weeks or months of notice. Others are arranged at the park on the day. This is the written companion of our access timeline tool: it lists every lead time that our park profiles state, quotes the profile’s wording, and links the profile and the park’s own page. It is desk research, not medical, legal or safety advice, and the park decides on the day.
In short
- Of the 87 parks on this site, 36 state a lead time or a time to allow in our profiles. Most parks state none, and for those the right step is to ask.
- Most deadlines are short: 24 hours to a week for equipment, medical devices and sign-language interpreting. The longest is three months, for the UK Merlin parks’ Ride Access Pass.
- Six cases where a park’s pages disagree with themselves or have changed are set out below. We state the conflict and do not resolve it.
- Several schemes need no advance step at all: our profiles say you collect or arrange them at the park on the day.
- A lead time is a published minimum, not a promise of a pass or a slot. Apply earlier than the minimum when you can.
How to read the tables
The “What our profile says” column is the wording from our own park profile, copied exactly, not a quotation from the park. The profile gives the park’s page and the date we checked. The last column says whether we re-opened the park’s page for this guide on 3 October 2026 and what we saw. Where it says “not re-opened” or “not re-checked”, we are relying on our profile’s dated reading, and the page may have changed. Dates and periods are the park’s, in the park’s units; “working days” and “business days” are as the park wrote them.
Parks that publish a lead time
These 57 entries come from 40 parks, 31 of them with a lead time and the other nine on-the-day arrangements. Alton Towers appears here with its current wording; its history is in the conflicts section.
Months ahead
Only one park outside the conflicts below states a lead time in months.

Parks whose timings conflict or are uncertain
For these six we show what each page says and leave the choice to you and the park. Where the park publishes two figures, ask which applies before you spend on travel. See also the Merlin Ride Access Pass guide for the UK parks.
| Park | What the park’s pages say | The conflict | Source, and what we re-checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chessington World of Adventures | Terms and conditions on the Ride Access Pass page: a Nimbus application must be submitted at least three months before the visit. Accessibility planning page: applications completed online at least 7 days before the visit, and on-the-day registration is no longer available. | Three months against seven days, on the same park’s pages. We do not say which is binding. | Ride Access Pass page (opens a new tab) · Accessibility planning (opens a new tab) Both wordings re-opened 3 October 2026 and seen as described. The application FAQ was not re-read; our profile recorded it as refusing our automated check on 1 October 2026. |
| LEGOLAND Windsor Resort | Ride Access Pass page: applications “must be completed at least before your visit”, with the period missing, and a recommendation to apply as early as possible. Policy terms: submit the application at least seven days before the visit. | One page gives no period; the terms say seven days. The page also carries a September 2026 notice that the system is changing from the end of 2026. | Ride Access Pass page (opens a new tab) · Policy terms (opens a new tab) Both re-opened 3 October 2026 and seen as described. We cannot tell whether the change at the end of 2026 alters the notice needed. |
| Thorpe Park Resort | Ride Access Pass page: the main steps say applications must be completed “at least” before the visit, with the period missing. The terms on the same page say a Nimbus application must be submitted at least three months before the visit. Our profile also records mixed wording on Merlin’s own accessibility site. | A missing period in the instructions, three months in the terms. We do not give a deadline. | Ride Access Pass page (opens a new tab) Page re-opened 3 October 2026: both passages seen as described. The accessibility planning page we opened that day gave no period. Merlin’s accessibility site was not re-opened. |
| Six Flags Over Texas | The guest accessibility guide asks for sign-language interpreting at least 48 hours before the visit. Our profile says the accessibility page gives one week, in a paragraph that names a different park, which looks like a copying error. | 48 hours against one week. We do not say which applies. | 2026 guest accessibility guide (PDF) (opens a new tab) · Accessibility page (opens a new tab) The guide’s “at least 48 hours prior to visit” was re-opened 3 October 2026 and confirmed. The accessibility page loads its text with scripts, so we could not re-read the one-week paragraph and rely on our profile’s dated reading. |
| Alton Towers | Both the Ride Access Pass page and its application FAQ said at least three months before your visit when our profile checked them on 1 October 2026. On 30 September 2026 the profile had recorded the pass page as saying at least 7 days; that wording no longer appears. | The park’s own pages changed their stated period within a day of our checks. If you see seven days quoted elsewhere, it is out of date on the evidence we have. | Ride Access Pass page (opens a new tab) Not re-checked: the park’s site refused our automated check (403) on 3 October 2026. We rely on our profile’s reading of 1 October 2026. |
| La Ronde (Montréal) | The park’s page points to the CAL leisure card, run by a separate organisation. CAL’s page for people outside Québec says to allow 10 to 15 business days. A banner on CAL’s pages says current processing is 4 to 6 weeks because of summer demand. CAL’s criteria page also lists living in Québec as a condition. | 10 to 15 business days against 4 to 6 weeks, and a residency condition against a page for non-residents. | CAL: applying from outside Québec (opens a new tab) CAL’s page re-opened 3 October 2026: both the 10 to 15 business days and the 4 to 6 weeks banner were on it. La Ronde’s own accessibility page refused our automated check (403), and we did not confirm whether the card matters at La Ronde. |
What parks do not publish
Most parks on this site state no lead time that our profiles record, and some pages give no period where you would expect one (Windsor and Thorpe, above). “Not published” does not mean no advance step exists, and it does not mean none is needed. It means we did not find it on the pages we read. For those parks the access timeline shows the general steps only. Park pages also change without notice, so a lead time we quote may already have moved.
Steps for every visit
Travel assistance has its own notice periods, set by airlines, rail operators and law, not by the park. The figures below come from our getting to theme parks with assistance guide, whose official pages were opened on 2 October 2026 and are listed there with what remains unconfirmed. We did not re-open them for this guide.
| Journey | Notice the official pages publish |
|---|---|
| Flights | Ask when booking, or at least 48 hours before departure (UK CAA); at least 48 hours before (EU, via Your Europe). |
| Trains in the EU | At least 24 hours before; some EU countries require 36 hours. |
| Trains in Great Britain | As far ahead as possible, but requests are accepted up to 2 hours before the journey (National Rail). |
| Eurostar | Pre-book assistance at least 24 hours ahead. |
| Long-distance coaches in the EU | At least 36 hours before, for services of 250 km or more. |
The same journey can involve more than one of these. Book assistance when you book the ticket, and keep the confirmation.
How to plan
- Find your park in the access timeline, enter your visit date, and see the dates for each step.
- Read the park’s own page, linked from its profile. Check it again closer to your visit.
- If your park is in the conflicts table or states no lead time, email the park and keep the reply.
- Book travel assistance for each leg when you book the ticket.
- Make a short plan with breaks and a plan B in the day planner.
- Pack documents, confirmations and medication using the packing checklist.
- On the day, go to the access desk before you ride and ask what applies to you today.
Questions to ask the park
- How early must I apply or register, and is that a minimum or a recommendation?
- If I apply later than that, what happens, and is anything available on the day?
- How long does processing take at busy times, such as school holidays?
- Do you accept documents from my own country, or the EU Disability Card?
- Which page is current, if two of your pages give different notice?
More questions, by topic, are on our questions to ask a park page.
